Posterous makes Mail.app into a desktop Blogging client

Desktop blogging clients like Blogo and Mars Edit are great, I purchased MarsEdit a year ago, have just used Blogo for the 21 day trial period and possibly will buy it.  However, using a service such as Posterous is causing me to reconsider.  With Posterous you can post to the site via email and have Posterous auto-post to other sites of your choice.  Such sites as Twitter, Wordpress, Tumblr, Blogger, Typepad, Facebook, and so on.  Once you set up the service you can then post to "everything" via an email to post@posterous.com or you can narrow it down to twitter+wordpress@posterous.com, or just wordpress@posterous.com.  So long as you send it from an email that you have registered with your Posterous account, it will know what to do with it.

One thing that blogging clients offer is a quick way to see and access old posts for editing.  When you send an email to Posterous, it will send you a reply email with quick links to edit, view, or delete the post.  With Mail.app you can create a "Smart Mailbox" for messages from "Posterous" and you will have quick access to your posts (sorted by date would be best).  You can also create a "Rule" to take all messages from Posterous and place them in a folder on your Mac.

Adding photos with Mail.app is also very easy, either use the Photo Browser to use iPhoto images, or simply drag and drop the images into the mail message.

Now if only Mail.app had a short cut key for creating hyperlinks... to do this open up System Preferences, click on Keyboard and Mouse, select Keyboard Shortcuts and click the little + sign at the bottom to add a short cut.  Use the drop down menu to select Mail as the application, type Add... into the Menu item, and then type your shortcut key (I used command L), then click Add.

Very cool about the smart boxes. Yes, using email as a blogging tool is definitely what we want! The integration between iphoto and email is killer. Thanks.
